Compliance Intelligence
Built for Small Business

We believe every business — regardless of size — deserves to know when the rules change. RuleBrief was built to close the gap between the compliance resources that large enterprises take for granted and the information vacuum that leaves SMBs exposed.

Level the compliance playing field for small businesses.

Fortune 500 companies employ teams of lawyers and compliance officers whose sole job is to track regulatory changes. They never get blindsided. Small businesses, by contrast, typically learn about a new rule when they receive a notice of violation — or worse, a fine.

RuleBrief exists to change that. We monitor the regulatory landscape 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and deliver a clear, actionable brief every Monday morning — so that a 10-person e-commerce business in Texas has the same situational awareness as a company with a full legal department.

We don't give legal advice. We give you the information you need to ask the right questions and make informed decisions — in plain English, with specific actions attached.

What we believe
Compliance information should be accessible
Not locked behind $500/hr attorney consultations or buried in 200-page Federal Register notices.
Plain language is not dumbing it down
Translating legal language into clear, actionable guidance requires expertise — and it's the most valuable thing we do.
SMBs deserve proactive protection
You shouldn't need a regulatory surprise to prompt a compliance review. Prevention beats remediation every time.
Honest about what we are
We are an information service, not a law firm. We always recommend consulting a licensed attorney for advice specific to your situation.
The compliance gap
Without RuleBrief
Businesses discover regulatory changes reactively — often from a violation notice, a news headline, or a client complaint. By then, the damage is done.
With RuleBrief
Businesses see relevant changes in their Monday brief — weeks or months before enforcement begins — with specific actions to take before the deadline.
Based on monitoring 50+ regulatory sources across federal and state jurisdictions.

Regulatory blindsides cost small businesses billions every year.

In 2024, the FTC alone collected over $500 million in civil penalties from businesses that simply didn't know a rule had changed or tightened. State attorneys general filed over 1,200 enforcement actions. Employment law violations — often from outdated handbooks or missing wage notices — resulted in settlements averaging $120,000 per case.

The businesses hit hardest weren't bad actors. They were busy founders, operations managers, and HR generalists who had no practical way to stay current on a regulatory landscape that changes hundreds of times per year across dozens of agencies and all 50 states.

There was no affordable, practical solution built specifically for small businesses. Legal newsletter subscriptions are written for lawyers. Compliance software platforms cost $20,000+ per year and require dedicated staff. Google alerts miss context, lack personalization, and bury small business owners in irrelevant noise.

RuleBrief fills that gap at a price point every small business can afford.

AI-powered monitoring, human-quality clarity.

Our pipeline runs continuously, scanning 50+ regulatory sources across federal agencies, major state attorney general and agency sources, EU regulatory bodies, and key industry-specific regulators. Every night, new content is ingested, classified, and filtered.

Our AI system then translates regulatory language into plain English, assigns a priority level (RED / YELLOW / GREEN) based on urgency and enforcement timeline, and generates a specific action checklist for each item. The result is a brief that takes 4 minutes to read and tells you exactly what to do.

Every brief is personalized to your business profile — your industry, states of operation, employee count, and the regulation categories that matter most to you. A healthcare company in Texas sees different content than a SaaS startup in California.

Our AI pipeline
1

Continuous source monitoring

50+ sources checked daily: Federal Register, FTC, DOL, NLRB, OSHA, IRS, SEC, federal courts, key state AG and agency sources, EU Official Journal, and more.

2

Classification & relevance scoring

Each new regulatory item is classified by category, jurisdiction, affected business size, and urgency level based on enforcement timelines.

3

Plain-English translation

AI translates regulatory language into clear summaries, then generates a specific, actionable checklist item for each relevant rule.

4

Personalized brief delivery

Every Monday, your custom brief arrives — filtered to your business profile, color-coded by priority, and ready to act on.

5

Urgent push alerts

RED-level items — active enforcement, 30-day deadlines — trigger immediate email alerts so critical windows are never missed.

How we operate

These aren't wall art — they're the actual principles that guide every product decision we make.

🔍

Accuracy over speed

We'd rather be right than first. Every brief is checked before delivery. When we're uncertain about a regulatory interpretation, we say so explicitly rather than overstating our confidence.

🪟

Radical transparency

We are an information service, not a law firm. We tell you exactly what we are, what we cover, and what our limitations are — every time, without burying it in fine print.

🎯

Actionability over comprehensiveness

Our job isn't to send you everything — it's to send you what you need to act. Less noise, more signal. A 4-minute brief you act on beats a 40-minute brief you archive.

🤝

SMB-first design

We build for people without compliance staff, not for enterprise legal teams. Every feature, every word choice, every UX decision is made with the time-constrained founder in mind.

📈

Continuous improvement

Our source coverage, AI models, and brief format improve every month based on subscriber feedback and regulatory landscape changes. The product you get in month 12 is meaningfully better than month 1.

🔒

Data minimalism

We collect only what we need to personalize your brief. We don't sell your data. We don't use your business information for any purpose other than delivering your service.

Built by a small team of engineers and operators who lived the compliance problem firsthand.

RuleBrief was born out of direct, firsthand experience with regulatory failure — not as outside observers, but as people inside the system watching it break in real time.

Our team brings over a decade of combined experience in data engineering, software architecture, and technical leadership across multiple ventures. For several of those years, our work was squarely inside the Medicare Advantage industry — as business analysts and software architects — where regulatory compliance wasn't a background concern, it was a daily operational reality.

That work meant near-daily exposure to surprise CMS audits — the kind that arrive without warning and result in significant fines, mandatory remediation efforts, and hundreds of developer hours spent reconciling software to meet requirements that were always publicly available but rarely surfaced in a useful form. The rules existed. The enforcement was real. The gap was in translating dense regulatory language into actionable intelligence before the auditors showed up.

In 2024, our team built the tool we wished had existed throughout those years. Starting with the regulatory categories that generate the most enforcement activity — healthcare, data privacy, employment law, FTC, and AI — we built a monitoring pipeline, a translation layer, and a brief format that any business owner or operator can read in minutes and walk away knowing exactly what to do next.
